BBC Weather Coastal Weather - The BBC Weather Department have pulled together coast and sea weather forecasts and observations to help you plan your activities around the UK's shores. Use this page as your BBC Weather starting page for marine activities, it gives you access via a menu to all the other marine BBC weather pages.

BBC Weather Shipping Forecast - The BBC Weather Shipping Forecast page. The Shipping Forecast file is updated 4 times a day at or after approximately 0015, 0505, 1130 and 1725. It is read out on Radio 4 at 0048, 0536, 1201 and 1754 (local time). All broadcasts are on LW on 1515m (198 kHz) and some transmissions are on VHF. You can also listen using the link on the BBC website. It gives a summary of gale warnings in force, a general synopsis and area forecasts for specified sea areas around the UK. The radio bulletin also includes the coastal weather reports (0048 and 0536 only).

BBC Weather Inshore Waters Forecast - The BBC Weather Inshore Waters Forecast page. The BBC Weather Centre publish a detailed Inshore Waters (up to 12 miles offshore) forecast for 16 areas around the coast of the UK twice a day at 0500 and 1700. It contains a 24 hour forecast for each area plus an outlook for the following 24 hours and ends with a general three day outlook. The BBC publish the full text and you can also select just your area. The date and time of issue are found in the header of the full text forecast.

A 24 hour forecast with 9 areas only is broadcast after the main shipping forecast at approximately 0053 (local time) and again at approximately 0539 and the BBC also publish the text transcript of this. This is updated with the issue of strong wind warnings but these are not broadcast on Radio 4 but via local radio and Coastguard stations.

Areas covered by the Inshore Waters Forecast: Cape Wrath to Rattray head including Orkney; Rattray head to Berwick on Tweed; Berwick on Tweed to Whitby; Whitby to The Wash; The Wash to North Foreland; North Foreland to Selsey Bill; Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis; Lyme Regis to Lands End including Isles of Scilly; Lands End to St Davids head including Bristol Channel; St Davids head to Colwyn Bay including St Georges Channel; Colwyn Bay to the Mull of Galloway including Isle of Man; Lough Foyle to Carlingford Lough; The Mull of Galloway to Mull of Kintyre including Firth of Clyde and North Channel; Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurchan Point; Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath including Outer Hebrides; Shetland Isles; There is also a Three day Outlook.

BBC Weather Coastal Forecast - This is a Met Office commissioned weather forecast for the inshore waters around the UK coast. Detailed weather and sea state forecasts, for the next 24 hours in 4 time periods, are available for 24 sailing areas around the coast. The data is sourced from the Met Office Mesoscale model and the UK Water Model. The file is updated twice daily at 0500 and 1700. The figure in milliBars for pressure is followed by R (Rising), F (Falling) or S (Steady).
